Sketch a day- 9/23-30/2008

So it looks like it’s the end of the world and all the grownups are losing their money. I never wanted to be Canadian more than right now. But the grass is always greener on the other side. The Presidential Debate last Friday was interesting. It was especially interesting because I could see the points both sides made and to be honest, I don’t really know which one of them is the worst of the 2. They’re in the game. They’re both bought and dug in to a certain extent and neither one can really fix all of the problems in the country. The questions they answered provided no real context for us as far as how true the answers could be. Or rather, not to me anyway because I am not in the loop in Washington and whatnot. I mean, how can either side be right when one aims to salavage our world image by engaging in low level talks, but the other person rightly says that you can’t talk to people who think it’s ok to engage in cleansing of the ethnic variety. You really are damned if you do and damned if you don’t. It goes on and on. We’re allies with Israel and everyone hates them, so everyone hates us, etc etc.

People of the world, if you are reading, I love you all. In all your shapes and sizes, eye colors, skin tones, textures of flesh, poofiness of hair. I only hate the stupid people. Please don’t bomb me or my city. Now, some sketches.

Go

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Go swiftly
with a fucking purpose.
Step hard
leave tracks
shake the bush
with your progress.
Let your grunts
and screams
echo off it all
and when the wolves come
fend them off
with the violence
of your brushes
the sting of your burning paints
the explicit poison of your sweat.
As they end
around you like raindrops
spit in their faces
and declare righteously
“You were all wrong.”

Heroes Review

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

So last night, I briefly tuned in to Heroes while on a commercial break from Monday Night Football. My cousin asked me this morning what I thought about it. I replied thusly:

“I turned it on and the Mexican was with the Indian guy and he wanted to inject some stuff and she was crying, “It’s so evil, so evil.” And then the flying guy, Nathan was in a bed, talking about oh, god made us angels. And then Sylar cut the cheerleader’s scalp off and then he put the scalp back on and she was all like, “Aren’t you going to kill me?” and he’s like, “Nah, you’re unkillable, you’re special, I remember when you were in Remember the Titans and you were a little pain in the ass, but now you are hot as hell even though you ain’t got no junk in the trunk.” And he walked away.

Fuck Heroes. That shit is stupid.”

Crazy week at work. Great weekend. Dolphins AND Hurricanes won. But the Marlins lost a game that might’ve gotten them closer to a playoff spot for real. The planets aligned and they missed their chance to hit it into a seam… Oh well. I won 4 games at bball this weekend. Finally. I don’t remember the last time I managed to do that. It was mostly because the biggest guy we play with was on my team. He hadn’t played well in awhile, but he had a monster game this weekend. I just concentrated on dribbling the ball, getting it to people, and defending and rebounding. Not lots of scoring for me, until the last game, where we were down 6-1, and I hit 2 2 pointers to drag us bag into it. We won that game. Not that I could breathe most of that game or anything. And don’t mind the jammed right middle finger either. Did I mention the Dolphins won? Finally? Agains the Patriots? On the road no less? Just checking. Anyway. Sketches below the break.

Sketch a day Weekly Post 9/9-16/2008

So. The Miami Dolphins… they.. um.. we… suck again. Yes, it’s week 2. I understand that. And we’re rebuilding. So it’s to be expected. But man, this is messed up. Other than that, I have to say the following: The grass is always greener on the other side and it’s pointless to sit there and think about what’s the best course because in the end, we’re all in the dirt, and as we go, as the lights go out, we will not want to go out, no matter what our views, our pains, the last taste on our lips. We always wants what’s on the other side of the fence or on the other side of darkness. Though it may cut, slap, scare, pinch, or blow a kiss of love on us, in the end it’s us and the person we settle with in the darkness of our minds. So settle up with that lil person or agree that some things need to be left to the Universe. Or buried.

This one’s for Steph. She LOVES to make vague posts. And now? Now there’s sketches, just beyond the veil.

Just a picture

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Walking out of work today, I noticed the hospital had its flag flying at half mast. I’ve always been the type of person that isn’t affected by things far from me. While September 11th 2001 was a messed up thing in my mind, I don’t know anyone or know anyone who had someone hurt or lost during Osama’s supervillain moment. So I’ve always managed to keep it at a distance, unless I was having a foolish “nuke the mountains where he hides” moment because “history is written by the winners anyway”.

But it was just such a pretty thing to see, summer’s ember slowly dying, a work day at my back, and… well… honestly, the freedom to do whatever I wanted. Yeah, I went home. I did the dishes, like I’m supposed to and all that. But at any moment, if I wanted to, there are many civil liberties I possess (that government hasn’t yet violated) which I could have acted on.

And that’s kinda cool.

So, South Florida has missed yet another hurricane (Ike). I think this is especially good when the storm was named after Tina Turner’s violent ex husband. I’m a lil’ worried for my uncle in Cuba, who I barely know, but whose conversations I will miss whenever they cease. Supposedly he lives in this completely concrete house with a concrete roof. Doesn’t that mean it can fall down on you and take your life if it gets weighed down with water? “No,” says my father.

If you and yours have been through a storm this season or are awaiting the heavy darkness that comes with evil cloud cover, I make a silent and godless prayer for you. I know that sounds bad, but hurricanes don’t believe in gods, just warm waters. It’s kind of like when men forget god if they see titties.

Primal forces, my friends. Sketches below the break.

Sketch a day Dump 8/26-9/2/08

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Lots of bad storms have hit the Gulf and surrounding areas recently. My heart and hope goes out to those in the areas that are and will be affected by these behemoths of organized sky spit. There’s two more on the way this week (possibly) and I hope I find myself with electricity next Monday/Tuesday so I can continue my lil catch up trend with the sketches. I saw some John Adams this weekend, which was pretty good. I also saw a movie where Maggie Gyllenhall plays a recovering drug addict. I didn’t like it as much. She didn’t appreciate her brother enough for my taste. Also, her dad groped her several times and she just ignored it. Yes, let’s concentrate on the heroin addiction. Let’s NOT do anything about Daddy Groper. Anyway. Sketches below, people.
